Begin Your Journey into Vedic Chanting
Vedic chanting is learned not simply by reading words on a page, but through listening, repetition, correction, and regular practice.
Foundations of Vedic Chanting is an eight-week introductory course for sincere beginners who wish to approach Vedic chanting through this traditional method.
You will be guided step by step through four traditional prayers, with particular attention to pronunciation, Vedic svara, rhythm, continuity, and attentive listening.
The emphasis throughout the course is simple:
Listen. Repeat. Correct. Practice.
What You Will Learn
During the eight weeks, you will learn and practice four foundational prayers:
Gaṇapati Prārthanā
Sarasvatī Prārthanā
Saha Nāvavatu
Pūrṇamadaḥ
You will also be introduced to essential foundations of Vedic chanting, including:
Sanskrit pronunciation
Vedic svara and pitch
Mātrā and duration
Proper articulation
Continuity and connected chanting
The traditional oral method of learning
The teacher–student relationship in Vedic study
Establishing a regular personal practice
The theoretical material is intentionally kept in service of the practice.
Most of our time together will be spent listening, chanting, receiving correction, and practicing.
The Study Veda Method
Vedic chanting is traditionally transmitted through the living voice of a teacher.
You will first listen carefully to the mantra as it is chanted. You will then repeat it under guidance, receive corrections, and practise between sessions.
This process is repeated as the sounds, pronunciation, svara, rhythm, and flow become increasingly familiar and steady.
The written handbook supports this process, but it does not replace it.
The written word can guide your study.
The teacher's voice guides your chanting.
Personalized Teacher Feedback
Although the course is conducted in a small group, your learning continues between sessions.
Each student will be asked to submit a practice recording each week. Your teacher will listen to your chanting and provide individual feedback on the material being studied.
This allows you to identify and correct areas such as:
pronunciation
svara
duration
articulation
continuity and flow
You will therefore not simply attend a weekly class.
Practice. Submit. Receive correction. Improve.
This personalized feedback is an important part of the Study Veda approach.
Your Study Veda Handbook
Every student receives the Study Veda: Foundations of Vedic Chanting — A Beginner's Handbook as part of the course.
The handbook provides background on the Vedas and the oral tradition, introduces the foundations of Vedic chanting, explains essential pronunciation and practice principles, and provides supporting material for the four prayers studied in the course.
It is designed to remain useful beyond the eight weeks as a reference for your continuing practice.

An Important Note
Vedic chanting is a traditional oral discipline.
Eight weeks provides a foundation, not mastery. Accuracy and confidence develop through continued listening, repetition, practice, and guidance.
The goal is not simply to finish four mantras.
The goal is to begin developing the ear, discipline, steadiness, and reverence needed for continued study.
The course handbook is a companion to the living instruction of the teacher and is not intended to replace direct guidance.
Begin Your Practice
You do not need to know everything before you begin.
You simply need to be willing to listen.
Listen carefully.
Repeat faithfully.
Receive correction.
Practise steadily.
